Dr. Frederick J. Lisy, FASM

Dr. Frederick J. Lisy is the President of Orbital Research Inc., Cleveland Ohio. He oversees the development and commercialization of core technologies that focus on micro/miniature actuators and sensors with advanced control systems for the biomedical products, automotive, aircraft, and renewable energy industries. Under his leadership, Orbital Research was presented with the “Inc 500” award in 2001 and has made Case Western Reserve University's Weatherhead School of Management top 100 list for eight consecutive years (1999 through 2006). Both awards recognize companies for fast and consistent growth.
Prior to joining Orbital Research, Dr. Lisy was the Program Manager and Senior Researcher for the Center on Materials for Space Structures (CMSS), a NASA Center for Commercial Development of Space (CCDS) at Case Western Reserve University. While working at CMSS, he was instrumental in developing eight passive and one active space shuttle experiments.
He received his B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. in Materials Science & Engineering from CWRU. He was selected as “Young Engineer of the Year” by the Cleveland Engineering Society, recognized for “Outstanding Technical Achievement” by the Cleveland Technical Societies Council and honored as one of Cleveland’s “Top 40 Engineers” (1998) and Top 40 “Leaders Under 40” (2002) by Crain's Cleveland Business magazine.
Dr. Lisy was elected a Fellow of ASM in recognition of his expertise in sensors. Dr. Lisy is currently the President of ASM International after serving 3 years on its Board of Trustees (2004-2007). He chaired and now serves on the ASM New Products and Services Committee where he has been active in developing content for ASM’s on-line materials information system as well as new products for the medical devices and alternative energy communities.
