Thomas Kluz, Business Development Associate, Northwestern Memorial Hospital
: I graduated from Northwestern University with a BS in Biomedical Engineering. Upon graduating, I took a job at a boutique health care management strategy consulting firm called Health Care Futures. I enjoyed the work that I was doing, but I wanted to experience consulting life at a larger firm, so I transitioned to a similar role in Accenture’s Health and Life Science strategy practice. While in consulting, I worked on a myriad of projects serving health care providers, medical device and healthcare IT companies. The scope of my work involved market assessments, financial valuations, and due diligence for M&A and LBO transactions. While at Accenture, I had an exciting opportunity to work for Adams Street Partners in their Venture Capital/Growth Equity team, which not only provided me with an amazing buy-side opportunity, but enabled me to put my skills that I learned in consulting to more use by working with companies from the ground-up. I was hired as their first associate and worked to develop several analytical models to automate their deal sourcing capabilities. I worked with their Data and Analytics team to understand the firm’s internal and external data resources, as well as the Venture Capital team to understand their investment strategies, ultimately developing a tool to be used for deal-sourcing activities. After completing my role at Adams Street Partners, I decided to get back into healthcare by joining Northwestern Memorial Hospital in their Business Development and Strategy group. As a member of this team, I've had the opportunity to author business plans, outline key strategic and financial initiatives for various startup entities housed within the hospital. I've also created market projections and financial valuations for several NMH business ventures, modelling various ownership scenarios and exit strategies.
